PM856AK01 is a processor unit that belongs to the AC 800M family of rail-mounted modules. It is a CPU module that contains the microprocessor, RAM memory, real-time clock, LED indicators, INIT push button, and a CompactFlash interface. The base plate of the PM856AK01 controller has two RJ45 Ethernet ports (CN1, CN2) for connection to the Control Network, and two RJ45 serial ports (COM3, COM4). It is available with 16 MB of memory and a clock frequency of 24 MHz.

Compact Control Builder supports standard IEC 61131-3 programming languages and is a tool for designing control code and hardware layout for AC 800M. It creates logic, sequential and analog control-intensive automation solutions for all existing controllers in the automation system handled in one database. Flash cards allow loading of applications without the need to utilize engineering tools to support OEM and remote solutions.
Each controller has many different I/O options available. Some I/O requirements add a standard that includes acceptable discrete voltage levels, analog signal levels, and special modules. For discrete signals, a good standard is 24 V DC or 120 V AC for both inputs and outputs. Standards for analog signal levels should also be specified, such as 4-20 mA. Special modules such as resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), thermocouples, and weigh scale modules should also be included in the standard.
