2. The European parliament has ordered eu countries to take immediate steps to limit the use of single-use
plastic bags, cutting their use by 50 per cent by 2017 and 80 per cent by 2019.
3. In 2002, Ireland introduced a tax on plastic bags, which led to a 95% drop in their use.
4. Bangladesh, the Philippines and Bhutan ban plastic bags.
