Introduction:
Cyclodextrin (usually referred to as CD) is a general term for a class of cyclic compounds composed of D-pyranose glucose units connected end to end through alpha-1,4-glycosidic bonds, which are generated by starch or polysaccharides under the action of cyclodextrin glucosyltransferase. Common molecules have 6, 7 and 8 glucose units, which are called α-cyclodextrin, β-cyclodextrin and γ-cyclodextrin respectively. Since α-cyclodextrin can form inclusion complexes with many guest molecules, thereby changing the physical and chemical properties of the guest molecules such as solubility and stability, it has a wide range of applications in food, medicine, agriculture, textiles, environmental protection, cosmetics, biotechnology and analytical chemistry.
Uses:
Cyclodextrin has a hole in the center of the ring structure, with -CH- oxygen atoms bound to glucoside inside, and is hydrophilic. The -OH groups at the 2nd, 3rd and 6th positions of glucose are hydrophilic, and can complex other molecules into inclusion compounds through weak van der Waals forces. There are many substances that can be included by cyclodextrin, including rare gases, halogens, dyes, spices, drugs, foods, pesticides and preservatives. After inclusion, its stability, volatility, solubility and reactivity are improved. This special effect of cyclodextrin makes it an inclusion material with wide application value. 1. Use in the pharmaceutical industry Cyclodextrin can form inclusion compounds (encapsulation) with drugs, which can (1) stabilize unstable drugs; (2) powderize deliquescent, sticky or liquid drugs; (3) solubilize (solubilize) poorly soluble or insoluble drugs, etc. 2. Use in the pesticide industry Cyclodextrin inclusion stabilization can make some pesticides storage-resistant and improve insecticide efficacy. 3. Uses in the food industry Chemicalbook Cyclodextrin is used in the food industry to have the following effects: (1) Elimination and masking of specific odors; (2) Improvement and modification of food tissue structure; (3) Reduction and removal of bitter taste; (4) Antioxidant effect; (5) Preservation and optimization of flavor. 4. Uses in the daily chemical industry Cyclodextrin can also be used as an emulsifier and quality improver in the manufacture of cosmetics. It also has deodorizing (such as removing bad breath) and preservative effects, and can be used in the manufacture of toothpaste and tooth powder. 5. Other uses In environmental protection, it can be used as a treatment agent for oily wastewater. Cyclodextrin aqueous solution is used to clean oil tanks, and its waste liquid can be recycled and processed to obtain fuel oil. 6. Uses of cyclodextrin in the chemical field Cyclodextrin is a valuable chemical reagent. When it is present, the fluorescence intensity of fluorescent pigments will increase significantly, so it can be used for the analysis of proteins and amino acids; it can also be used to separate long-chain organic compounds, racemates, etc. In addition, adsorbents made from cyclodextrin can be used as adsorption for chromatographic analysis.
