Morchella is a fungus belonging to the Morchaceae family and the Morchella genus. Its cap is nearly spherical, ovate to elliptical, reaching up to 10 centimeters in height. The tip is obtuse and round, and the surface has concave pits resembling a sheep's stomach. The shell color ranges from light yellowish-brown to concave. The ridge color is relatively light. The stalk is nearly cylindrical, nearly white, hollow and cylindrical. The spores are long elliptical, colorless. The tips of the lateral filaments are swollen. The body is light and the texture is crispy.

Morel mushrooms are distributed all over the world. They are more widely found in France, Germany, the United States, India and China. They are also sporadically distributed in some areas of Russia, Sweden, Mexico, Spain, Czechoslovakia and Pakistan. Morel mushrooms are widely distributed in China, ranging from the three northeastern provinces in the north to Guangdong, Fujian and Taiwan in the south, Shandong in the east, and Xinjiang, Tibet, Ningxia and Guizhou in the west, covering a total of 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. Morel mushrooms mostly grow on the humus layer of broad-leaved forests or mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests. It mainly grows in sandy loam rich in humus or brown soil, brown loam, etc. Morel mushrooms are more likely to occur in large numbers on forest land after fire.
