OPGW Fiber Optic Cable Application and Structure

Applications:
OPGW (Optical Power Ground Wire) cables are primarily used for power line communication, integrated with relay protection, automatic control systems, and installed alongside high-voltage transmission lines. They are ideal for new overhead power line projects, including ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission, providing both communication capacity and lightning protection by safely conducting short-circuit currents.

Structure:
The stranded optical ground wire is made of two or three layers of aluminum-clad steel (ACS) wires, or a combination of ACS and aluminum alloy wires, offering mechanical strength, durability, and electrical performance. The standard design features a central stainless steel tube housing the optical fibers, covered with aluminum for added protection.
