Silica brick is the main type of oxidized silica refractory material and is an acidic refractory material. Silica brick is a high-performance refractory material that is widely used in many industrial fields.
Chemical composition:
It is mainly composed of tridymite, cristobalite, and a small amount of residual quartz and glass phase, with a SiO2 content of more than 95%, or even not less than 93%. Physical properties: True density: about 2.35g/cm3, generally less than 2.38g/cm3. The smaller the true density of silica brick, the more tridymite and cristobalite there are in the brick, the less residual quartz, and the less strength decreases during use. Bulk density: related to porosity, the apparent porosity of general silica bricks is 17%~25%, and the bulk density is 1.8~1.95g/cm3. Refractory degree: 1670~1730℃, slightly varying with the mass fraction of SiO2, crystal form, type and quantity of impurities. Load softening temperature: up to 1640~1680℃, close to its refractoriness.
Characteristics
High heat resistance: Silica bricks can withstand extremely high temperatures, typically up to 1650°C (3000°F) or even higher, depending on the quality and composition of the brick. They have a low thermal conductivity, meaning they transfer heat slowly and provide effective insulation.
Thermal shock resistance: Silica bricks exhibit good resistance to thermal shock, which is crucial in applications where rapid temperature changes occur. They can withstand sudden changes in temperature without cracking or spalling.
Chemical resistance: Silica bricks have excellent chemical resistance, making them resistant to the effects of acids, alkalis, and other corrosive substances. They are particularly suitable for applications where the brick comes into contact with aggressive chemical environments. Low expansion coefficient: Silica bricks have a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which means they expand and contract less compared to other refractory materials during temperature changes. This property helps to minimize the risk of cracking and ensures dimensional stability. Insulating properties: Silica bricks have good insulation properties, which help to retain heat within the furnace or kiln and improve energy efficiency. They reduce heat loss and maintain a stable temperature in the high-temperature environment.
