1. Cleanroom Classification and Application

• What is your cleanroom's ISO Class? (e.g., ISO 5, ISO 7, ISO 8). A more stringent cleanroom (lower ISO number) requires a more efficient and powerful air shower.
• What is your industry?
  • Pharmaceutical/Biotech (GMP environments): Requires stainless steel construction (typically 304 or 316L) for easy sanitation and resistance to cleaning agents. Rounded corners (coved corners) are often necessary to prevent particle buildup.
  • Microelectronics/Semiconductors: May require features like ionizing bars to neutralize static charges on personnel, preventing damage to sensitive components.
  • General Manufacturing/Packaging: A standard powder-coated steel unit is often sufficient and more cost-effective.

2. Size and Configuration

Consider the flow of people and materials into your cleanroom.

• Capacity: How many people need to pass through at peak times? A standard one-person unit is common, but you might need larger models for higher traffic.
• Pass-Through for Carts/Equipment: If you move carts or large equipment into the cleanroom, you will need a larger, cart-sized air shower.
• Configuration:
  • Straight-Through: The most common design.
  • L-Shaped (90-degree turn): Useful for fitting into tight corners or specific facility layouts.
  • 3-Door or Tunnel: For connecting multiple rooms or for high-volume applications.

3. Material of Construction

This affects durability, cleanability, and cost.

• Powder-Coated Steel: The most economical option. Suitable for many electronics and industrial applications. Less resistant to harsh chemicals and scratches.
• Stainless Steel (SS 304): The industry standard for pharmaceutical, medical device, and food processing environments. Excellent corrosion resistance and easy to clean.
• Stainless Steel (SS 316L): A premium option offering superior resistance to corrosive chemicals like bleach and other sterilizing agents. Essential for sterile or highly corrosive environments.

4. Air Velocity and Nozzles

The core function of the air shower is to physically dislodge particles.

• Air Velocity: The industry standard is typically between 20-25 m/s (4000-5000 fpm) at the nozzle. Higher velocity is more effective at removing smaller particles. Ensure the velocity is adjustable.
• Nozzle Type & Quantity: Look for adjustable, stainless steel nozzles. The more nozzles and the better their placement (on both sides and ideally the ceiling), the more thorough the cleaning. A typical one-person unit should have at least 12-24 nozzles.

5. Filtration System

• Voice Prompts: Audio instructions ("Please turn 360 degrees") can improve user compliance and effectiveness.
• Lighting: Must have recessed, cleanroom-rated LED lighting.

8. Special Features (Optional but valuable)

• Ionizing Bars: As mentioned, these neutralize static electricity to release clinging particles and prevent ESD (electrostatic discharge) events. Crucial for electronics manufacturing.
• Sticky/Tacky Mats: Often placed inside the air shower entrance to remove contaminants from the soles of shoes.
