But when you partially press the lever, the clutch plate is not completely disengaged but is just partially engaged. This causes slip between the flywheel and clutch plate, thus, power isn't completely transmitted. The partial engagement also causes the wearing of friction material on clutch plate. Uneven wear of friction material can lead to imbalance of clutch plate and permanent partial transmission as complete friction surface will not be in contact with flywheel. The weared out material chips can accumulate in spaces between friction material meant for cooling. Thus partial engagement can lead to inefficient cooling of clutch. This creates various other issues.
