Braking systems combine air brakes for primary stopping—using compressed air to activate brake pads—and engine brakes (e.g., Jake brakes) to regulate downhill speed, reducing wear on friction components.
The tractor-trailer connection relies on a fifth wheel, a horseshoe-shaped coupling on the tractor that locks onto the trailer’s kingpin. Electrical and air lines link the two units, synchronizing lights, signals, and brakes. This integrated design ensures the safe, efficient transport of heavy loads over long distances.
