ASTM A513 Type 5 designates electric-resistance-welded (ERW) carbon steel tubing that undergoes a Drawn-Over-Mandrel (DOM) process. This cold-drawing ensures close control of dimensions—tight outside/inside diameter and wall thickness tolerances—uniform concentricity, dense surfaces, and predictable mechanical strength. It’s widely used for precision mechanical parts including hydraulic cylinders, shafts, roll cages, and similar applications.
Grades: Commonly manufactured in Grade 1020 and 1026 carbon steel.
Forms: Available in round, square, rectangular, and special shapes.
Size Range:
Outside diameter: approximately 0.188″ to 12″ (4.8 mm to 305 mm)
Wall thickness: approximately 0.028″ to 0.625″ (0.7 mm to 15.9 mm)
