Several questions about UVC LED disinfection and UVC wavelength

What is the "sterilizing range" of UV?
According to the International Ultraviolet Association, "the ultraviolet spectrum (the 'sterilization' region) that is important for water and air disinfection is the range absorbed by DNA (RNA in some viruses). This sterilization range is about 200-300nm." However, maby be because the peak wavelength of low-pressure mercury lamp (only determined by the physical characteristics of the lamp) is 253.7nm, the wavelength of 254nm uvc led is misunderstood as the best wavelength for air and water disinfection. However, we found that the wavelength of 265nm uvc led, 275nm uvc led and 280nm uvc led were the best after many tests.Specifically the wavelength of the 265nm uvc led, because that's the peak of the DNA absorption curve.

How is the bactericidal effect determined?
In general, UVC LED power intensity, wavelength and irradiation duration are used to determine the bactericidal effect.In water, for example, there may be a variety of bacteria with different optimal absorption wavelengths.For any given bactericidal ultraviolet wavelength, the power and time of exposure need to be calculated to achieve the desired level of disinfection.

What is the difference between a UVC LED and a mercury lamp?
On the one hand, historically, mercury lamps have been the only option for disinfection and sterilization.With the development of UV LED technology, new options have emerged, as leds are smaller, more powerful, non-toxic, have longer life spans, are more energy efficient, and allow more switching time.This makes the solution smaller, battery-powered, more portable, and capable of instant all-optical output.
On the other hand, low-pressure mercury lamps emit monochromatic light of almost 253.7 nm.Low-pressure mercury lamps (fluorescent lamps) and high-pressure mercury lamps are also used for disinfection and sterilization.These lamps have a wide spectral distribution, including the wavelength used for sterilization.UVC leds can be focused in a narrow range of specific wavelengths, allowing the solution to be tailored to specific application requirements.
