ASTM A213 A312 A269 A511 A240 UNS S30403 304L, EN 10216-5 1.4307 stainless steel tubing is a variant of the 18% chromium - 8% nickel austenitic alloy that is the most familiar and frequently used alloy in the stainless steel family. This alloy can be considered for a wide range of applications and exhibits good corrosion resistance, ease of fabrication, excellent malleability, high strength with low weight. type 304L is a lower carbon variant of grade 304 - the steel can be welded without causing problems with carbon precipitation of chromium carbide, as the steel is depleted of chromium during the welding process, thus reducing its effectiveness against corrosion/oxidation, and due to the low carbon percentage. intergranular corrosion attack can be minimized.
Therefore, Type 304L seamless pipe is a sort after material for use in severe corrosive conditions. Welding annealing is only necessary if the stress load is excessive in the application. This steel grade is found in various commercial sectors, especially in the chemical industry. 304 and 304L have similar properties and in some cases are stocked with dual certification, it is concluded that the properties and composition of each item conform to both types of steel. 304H grade cannot be included in this equation because of the higher carbon content of the steel, intended for high temperature applications.
