core advantage
Ultra-Compact Size
1.5-inch diagonal (1.54" typical active area), ideal for space-constrained designs.
High Pixel Density
152×152 resolution (~172 PPI), sharp text/graphics for small displays.
Zero-Power Image Retention
Bistable e-ink technology: 0 power consumption when static.
Sunlight Readable & Eye-Friendly
Reflective display: glare-free, paper-like visibility in direct sunlight.
Wide Viewing Angle
Near 180° viewing with minimal color shift.
Lightweight & Thin
Minimalist design for portable/wearable integration.
High Contrast B&W
Crisp monochrome output for clear information display.
Memory-in-Pixel Support
Built-in memory reduces MCU workload (depends on driver IC).
Wearable Tech
Smart bands, minimalist watches, fitness trackers (time, steps, notifications).
IoT Sensors & Tags
Wireless price tags, inventory trackers, smart labels.
Portable Medical Devices
Glucose monitors, pill reminders, wearable health sensors.
Industrial Tools
Compact meters, calibration displays, handheld diagnostic tools.
Smart Home Devices
Thermostat panels, security keypads, appliance status screens.
Electronic Accessories

Battery-Powered Indicators
Long-life status displays for remote sensors or environmental monitors.
Educational/DIY Kits
Low-power projects for students/makers (Arduino/Raspberry Pi).
Refresh Limitations
Avoid excessive partial updates to prevent ghosting; periodic full refreshes are mandatory.
Full refresh cycle time: ~2 seconds (typical); partial refresh: ~0.3–0.5 seconds.
Temperature Sensitivity
Operating Range: -20°C to +70°C. Performance degrades outside this range.
Storage Range: -30°C to +80°C. Avoid condensation during temperature shifts.
Voltage Requirements
Strictly adhere to specified logic voltage (e.g., 3.3V/1.8V) and driver voltage (e.g., VCOM ~±15V). Overvoltage damages controller IC.
ESD Protection
Handle with anti-static precautions. ESD can permanently damage e-ink film.
Mechanical Stress
Do not bend, press, or puncture the screen. The glass substrate is fragile.
Avoid direct contact with the e-ink layer (no cleaning agents or sharp objects).
UV Exposure
Prolonged direct sunlight may accelerate e-ink film degradation. Use UV-filtering covers in outdoor deployments.
Power Sequencing
Follow power-on/off sequences in the datasheet to avoid latch-up or image corruption.
Q1: Why is the screen slow to update?
A: E-paper relies on physical particle movement. Full refresh takes ~2s for clean transitions; partial refresh is faster (~0.3s) but may require full refreshes periodically to eliminate ghosting.
Q2: Can I use it with Arduino/Raspberry Pi?
A: Yes, but you’ll need a compatible driver board (e.g., SPI interface). Libraries like GxEPD2 (Arduino) or waveshare-epd (RPi) simplify integration.
Q3: Why does the display show ghosting?
A: Caused by incomplete particle realignment. Fix: Trigger a full refresh cycle every 5–10 partial updates. Avoid high-contrast image switches without full refreshes.
Q4: Does it really consume zero power?
A: Yes, when displaying a static image. Power is only consumed during screen refreshes. The controller IC may have minimal sleep current (~5–10µA).
Q5: Can I cut or resize the display?
A: No. The glass substrate and e-ink film are factory-sealed. Physical modification destroys the display.
Q6: Why is my display blank after power-up?
A: Check:
Voltage levels (logic/VCOM)
SPI communication signals
Reset sequence timing
MCU code initialization routine
Q7: How do I handle image persistence in cold/hot environments?
A: Below 0°C, refresh time increases significantly. Above 50°C, particles move faster but may cause flickering. Use temperature compensation algorithms if supported by the driver IC.
Q8: Is touch functionality supported?
A: No, this is a display-only module. Touch requires an external overlay (not recommended due to added thickness/reflectivity).
Q9: Can I drive it without a controller board?
A: Not recommended. You need a dedicated driver IC (e.g., SSD1681) to generate high-voltage waveforms for e-ink particle movement.
Q10: What causes "burn-in" effects?
A: Unlike OLED, e-paper has no permanent burn-in. However, extreme long-term static images (months/years) may cause temporary retention. Fix: Cycle through full-black/white screens.
