Zirconium rods have high strength, good weldability and corrosion resistance. Zirconium rods are usually used as heat-resistant and corrosion resistant materials. Zirconium has better corrosion resistance than titanium, close to niobium and tantalum. Zirconium and hafnium are two metals with similar chemical properties and symbiosis, and contain radioactive substances. Zirconium alloys are made of zirconium and other elements. The main alloy elements are tin, niobium, iron, etc. Zirconium alloy has good corrosion resistance, moderate mechanical properties, low atomic thermal neutron absorption cross-section at 300~400 degree high temperature and high pressure water and steam. It has good compatibility with nuclear fuel and is used as core material for water cooled nuclear reactor. In addition, zirconium has excellent corrosion resistance to various acids, bases and salts, and has strong affinity with gases such as oxygen and nitrogen. Therefore, zirconium alloys are also used to make corrosion resistant parts and pharmaceutical machinery parts. They are widely used as non-evaporative degassing agents in electric vacuum and bulb industries.
