Hydro Generator Kaplan Turbine/Water Turbine Generators For Mini Hydro Power Plant
The Kaplan turbine is a blade type turbine with variable blades. It was developed by Austrian professor Victor Kaplan in 1913. He combined automatically adjustable propeller blades and automatically adjustable guide vanes to achieve high productivity benefits in large drop flow and large head height differences.
The Kaplan turbine was originally developed from the Francis turbine. His invention can be used to generate electricity efficiently in hydroelectric power plants with extremely low head height. However, the extremely low head height is impossible for Francis turbines. The design head height range is 10-70 meters, and the output can be from 5 to 200 MW. The diameter of the driving wheel is between 2 and 11 meters. The speed range is from 79 to 429 revolutions.
