WHAT IS TPU PAINT PROTECTION FILM?

Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a transparent, durable urethane film applied to a vehicle’s exterior to shield the paint from scratches, rock chips, UV rays, and chemical stains. Made from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), it offers self-healing properties for minor abrasions and maintains gloss for years. The Main Components Of Paint Protection Film:

The Multi-layer composite structure of car protective film:

1.Top layer (coating): generally hydrophobic, anti-UV coating, anti-fouling and anti-oxidation, some with self-repairing function, can repair minor scratches.

2.Middle layer (substrate): core protective layer, TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) or PVC material, determines impact resistance, scratch resistance and ductility, thickness directly affects the protection level.

3.Adhesive layer: low glue or pressure-sensitive adhesive, ensure fit to the car body without residual glue, high-quality film uses traceless back glue technology.

4.Bottom layer (release film): protect the adhesive layer before construction, peel off when using.

Multi-layer synergy improves protection, such as the combination of TPU + self-repairing coating takes into account both scratch resistance and beauty, while inferior film may simplify the structure and affect durability.

The main functions of TPU include:

1. Scratch and wear resistance: TPU has extremely strong toughness and can effectively resist physical damage such as stone splashing and tree branch scratching, protecting the car paint from scratches.
2. Self-repair function: The surface coating can automatically repair minor scratches when exposed to heat (such as sunlight or warm water), keeping the paint surface bright as new.
3. Strong weather resistance: UV resistance, high and low temperature resistance (-40℃~80℃), no yellowing or cracking after long-term use.
4. High ductility: fits complex curved surfaces (such as bumpers and hoods), and is not easy to warp after construction.
5. Invisible protection: High transparency does not affect the original car color, while improving the gloss of the paint surface.

3. Is the self-healing function permanent? 

The self-healing function will gradually weaken as the film ages (high-quality films can last for 3 to 5 years or longer). Frequently repaired scratches may leave slight marks (because of molecular structure fatigue).
