Heavy Tungsten Alloy Rivet is a heavy tungsten alloy because they weigh more than twice as much as steel. High specific gravity tungsten alloys are usually refractory metals containing tungsten-Ni-Fe, tungsten-Ni-Cu, or tungsten-Ni-Cu-Fe complexes. Some tungsten alloys have added rare earths and/or other metals, such as cobalt, molybdenum and chromium. Heavy tungsten alloys have a high melting point, are twice as dense as steel and more than 50 percent heavier than lead.

Rivet is a permanent mechanical fastener. Before installation, it consists of a smooth cylindrical shaft with a head at one end. The end opposite the head is called Buck's tail. For installation, place the rivets in a punch or pre-drilled hole. The tail was then "upset" (that is, deformed) so that it swelled to about 1.5 times the diameter of the original shaft and the rivets were held in place. To distinguish the two ends of the rivet, the original head is called the factory head and the deformed end is called the shop head or Barker tail. Tungsten rivet reaction block is widely used in riveting gun.
Because there is an effective head at each end of the installed tungsten rivet reaction block, it can support tension loads (loads parallel to the axis axis); However, it is better able to withstand shear loads (loads perpendicular to the axis axis). Bolts and screws are better suited for tension applications.
Fasteners used in traditional wooden boat construction, such as copper nails and riveted bolts, work on the principle of rivets, but tungsten rivet reaction blocks were used long before the term "rivets" was invented, and within living memory they were usually classified as nails and bolts, respectively.
