In addition, the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of Kovar is its most dynamic mechanical property.
The expansion alloy Kovar is precisely formulated and controlled so that its coefficient of thermal expansion is very close to that of hard glass or ceramic, which means that it expands and contracts at similar rates. As such, it is well suited for applications where it is used in combination with glass or ceramic materials, especially where an airtight seal must be maintained over a wide temperature range.
