VW-1 Horizontal Vertical Flame Tester for Wires and Cables
Introduction:
The VW-1 Horizontal Vertical Flame Tester for Wires and Cables is professional testing equipment designed and manufactured according to the international mainstream wire and cable flame retardant performance test standards (especially the VW-1 test method in the UL 1581 standard). The equipment is mainly used to evaluate the vertical combustion flame retardant performance of insulating sheath materials such as wires, cables, optical fiber cables, and their finished products when exposed to specified flames under specific conditions. It is an indispensable key instrument for quality control, product development, and safety certification in the wire and cable industry.
Core functions and test purposes:
Flame retardant performance evaluation: Simulate the situation where wires and cables encounter external open flames in a vertical installation state, and evaluate their ability to prevent flame spread, self-extinguishing ability, and whether burning dripping materials ignite the cotton below.
Compliance with key standards: Mainly meets the requirements of Section 1080 of the UL 1581 standard (VW-1 Vertical Specimen Flame Test). At the same time, it can also be compatible with or refer to the provisions of vertical combustion tests in other relevant standards (such as IEC 60332-1, CSA C22.2 No. 0.3, GB/T 18380.12, etc.).
Determining VW-1 grade: This test is the core basis for determining whether wires and cables meet the strict VW-1 (Vertical Wire Flame) flame retardant grade in UL certification. Passing this test is a necessary condition for obtaining UL VW-1 certification.
Technical parameter:
1. There is a powerful ventilation and smoke exhaust device on the top. When the test is completed, it is opened at the same time as the air supply system to discharge the exhaust gas to the outdoors. During the test, the system was closed.
2. There is an air supply door on the back side of the box. When the test is completed, when the exhaust system is opened, air will be supplied into the box. During the test, this closure needs to be closed.
3. There is a toughened glass observation window on the front of the box that can be sealed during the test to facilitate the observation of the test situation.
4. There is an operation hole under the glass observation window. This hole is equipped with sealed gloves, and the operator uses sealed gloves to operate.
5. Test box volume specifications: overall size 2.1m (length) * 1.2m (width) * 1.8m (height), control box size 0.45m (length) * 0.35m (width) * 1m (height), net volume: 4.38 m3.
Temperature measurement system:
1. Thermal sensor (copper conduit and thermocouple)—The conduit structure should be electrolytic copper with extremely high conductivity. The length is 19.14±0.02mm.
2. K-type armored thermocouple, equipped with a 0.5mm diameter stainless steel tube as outer jacket.
3. The digital display thermometer matches the imported K-type thermocouple. The reading is greater than 1000°C.
4. The whole test system is movable type; it is placed in the test box for temperature measurement.
5. Equipped with an electronic stopwatch: accurate to 0.1s (standby during temperature measurement calibration).
